Our Approach

The extensive reading approach encourages language learners to read a large quantity of material for pleasure and general understanding, aiming to improve reading fluency and comprehension, rather than focusing on detailed analysis or specific tasks.

Key Principles

  • Reading for Pleasure: The primary goal is to make reading enjoyable and engaging.
  • Reading a Wide Variety of Texts: Learners should have access to a diverse range of materials, including novels, magazines, and other interesting texts.
  • Focus on Fluency and Comprehension: The emphasis is on reading quickly and understanding the overall meaning, rather than struggling with every word.
  • Independent Reading: Students choose what they want to read and are encouraged to read independently, often in a sustained simple story (SSS) method.
  • Easy-to-Understand Materials: The texts should be at a level that learners can generally understand, allowing them to focus on the flow of the story and build confidence.
  • Post-Reading Activities (Optional): While reading for pleasure is the main focus, some teachers may choose to incorporate post-reading activities, such as book discussions, questio
